Historically, henna was used for cosmetic purposes in Ancient Egypt. Bridal henna nights remain an important custom in many areas, particularly among traditional families. Henna is a tall shrub or small tree, standing 1.8 to 7.6 m tall. The henna plant is native to Africa, Asia, and Australasia, in semi-arid zones and tropical areas. It produces the most dye when grown in temperatures between 35 and 45 °C. Temperatures below 5 °C (41 °F) will kill the henna plant.. Germination is achieved by placing seeds in a refrigerator for 3-5 days and then on moistened tissue paper and putting into a zip-lock bag in a warm place. (25 degrees C) Seeds will sprout at irregular intervals from 3 to 8 weeks.
